QUESTION OF OPINION, DEAR LISTENER:
BP Volume 2 CD or Individual (and longer) tracks for download?
The CD would have a case and cover art and all that, but is LIMITED in length. The downloadable tracks could be unedited and unlimited in length, yet do they feel..special? Or, is the answer, eventually, OFFER BOTH?
Dan, both probably is the right answer. What will your price points be for the CD and for downloadable tracks? Is it your intention to allow purchase of individual tracks or is this just the mechanism to receive the anthology?
I'm thinking a CD would be around $10, regardless of the number of tracks. Individual tracks from the CD would be 99 cents on iTunes.
The tracks I would offer as an alternative would be 99 cents also, but could be (I think, anyway) much longer. The service I would use to sell them (SnoCap) may put a limit on the length. If they do, I would figure out how to do it another way. Basically, I would like to make stories from the archive available in high quality but without having to cut the heck out of them for them to fit onto a 70 min CD.
Still, the old media part of me still wants to put out CDs. The REALLY old media part of me wants to press vinyl...
Maybe the answer to the CD "problem" is MP3 discs instead of audio discs. I guess I still feel the need to release something tangible. I'm so 20th Century...
I would so pay $20 for an LP. Do you realize how hardcore that would be for me to be able to bring that up at my next party? “Yeah, well I got the new BP on LP! Now I’ve never owned a phonograph so I guess I’d have to DL the iTunes version too.
I’ll definitely buy the hardcopy of the CD but ya gotta remind me a few times on the show because I never check the site. As far as the format it doesn’t really matter, I just want the jewel case with liner notes to go with Vol.1
